Who publishes Lelfy
Lelfy is a free educational website at lelfy.com, published by Grid Pulsar.
Reading a page involves Lelfy's server, its page view counter, Google Analytics and Google's advertising systems. These collect information about the visit in the ways described below. Lelfy does not require an account to read its guides or take its free IQ test.
What happens when you visit: Lelfy counts page views and keeps server logs. Google Analytics measures visits, and Google AdSense loads advertising code on every page. Google and other advertising companies use cookies for ads based on visits to Lelfy and other websites. Lelfy never asks for your name, email address or age, and Lelfy itself does not sell or rent personal data.
Google AdSense advertising
Google AdSense is Google's advertising service, and its advertising code loads on every page of Lelfy.
Google's systems choose and place the ads that appear. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Lelfy or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to Lelfy and to other sites on the internet.
Other advertising companies that work with Google may also show ads on Lelfy through Google's systems. Like Google, these companies may place and read cookies in your browser. They may also use web beacons and similar technologies to collect information as a result of ads being served on Lelfy. A web beacon is a tiny image or piece of code that tells a server that a page or an ad was seen.
Like every request your browser makes, each request to Google's advertising servers carries your IP address. Google's advertising code also sends Google the address of the page you are reading when it asks for ads. Google describes this on its page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Lelfy does not see what Google's advertising cookies record and cannot look up a particular reader in Google's advertising systems.
Your advertising controls
You can turn off personalised ads from Google or block advertising cookies in your browser.
- Use Google's My Ad Center to turn off personalised ads from Google.
- Use the advertising choices page to turn off some other advertising companies' use of cookies for personalised ads.
- Block cookies in your browser to stop these advertising cookies. Every part of Lelfy works the same without them.
Turning personalised ads off does not remove the ads. It changes how the ads are chosen. Blocking cookies is a separate browser control, and you can clear cookies already in your browser at any time.

What Google Analytics records
Lelfy uses Google Analytics to learn which pages people read, how they find them and which guides are useful.
Google provides this service, which loads through Google Tag Manager on every page. Lelfy uses the information to improve the site. Analytics records information about both the visit and the browser used to make it:
- The pages you view, their web addresses and the page you came from.
- Your approximate location: country, region and city, worked out from the connection.
- Your device type, browser, operating system, screen size and language.
- Interactions such as scrolling, clicks on links to other websites, file downloads and time spent on a page.
Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. This statement concerns Google Analytics 4. Requests to Google's advertising servers carry your IP address, and Lelfy's standard server logs record it.
Analytics cookies and retention
Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser, and Lelfy keeps its analytics event data for 14 months.
One cookie is named _ga. Google uses it to tell one browser apart from another. The other cookie has a name starting with _ga_ and keeps track of the current visit. Google's documentation gives both cookies a default lifetime of two years.
The identifier in the _ga cookie is a random value. It is not a name or an email address. Lelfy cannot look up a particular reader in Google Analytics. The 14-month event retention period is the setting Lelfy chose in Google Analytics; it is separate from the cookies' default lifetime.
Lelfy has not linked Google Analytics to Google AdSense or to any other advertising product. Google signals is switched off. Lelfy does not use analytics data for advertising, retargeting or ad audiences. Google's advertising code collects information directly from your browser through the separate advertising setup described above.
Your analytics controls
You can stop Google Analytics by blocking cookies in your browser or installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
The add-on is available from Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on page. These are controls for analytics. My Ad Center controls Google's personalised ads. Closing Lelfy's cookie notice does not switch either service on or off.
You can also clear the analytics cookies from your browser at any time. Clearing a browser cookie and the expiry of analytics event data are separate things: Lelfy's analytics event data expires after 14 months.
Lelfy's own page view counter
Grid Pulsar also counts page views on its own server, alongside Google Analytics, without setting a cookie.
This counter records page views, referring sites, and rough country and device type derived from the request. A referring site is the website a reader came from. The counter's data stays on Grid Pulsar's server and is not sent to anyone. It is not shared with advertisers.
The cookie notice
Lelfy's own first-party cookie, cookie_consent, records only that you closed the cookie notice.
It holds no identifier and no personal data, and it expires after one month. Despite its name, it records the closing of a notice, not a choice about analytics or advertising.
Closing the notice does not switch Google Analytics or Google's ads on or off. Use your browser's cookie settings, the Analytics opt-out add-on or the advertising controls above to control those services.
Server logs and site delivery
Lelfy keeps standard web server logs for security and troubleshooting, and Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks.
The logs record your IP address, browser user agent, requested page and the time of the request. A browser user agent is information your browser sends about its software and device. These logs are not used to profile readers and are deleted after 14 days.
Cloudflare carries each request to Lelfy's server as part of delivering the site. Cloudflare sets no cookies on Lelfy.
How do tests, practice tools and shared results use your data?
The IQ test, practice quizzes and labs run in your browser. Lelfy does not store your answers, scores or settings, and they are not sent to the server while you use these tools. Shared links carry information in the page address.
A shared IQ test or quiz result link carries the result or the answers inside the web address. Lab preset links carry only the name of a preset.
The percentile calculator puts the score and standard deviation you enter into the page address when you submit it or open a link containing those values. The server computes the result from that address. Lelfy keeps no record of it beyond the ordinary records described below.
Every opened page address, including a result link's contents and a calculator address with its score, is recorded in the server logs, kept for 14 days, and in Lelfy's own page view counter. Google's advertising code also records the page address and sends it to Google when it asks for ads.
Google Analytics also receives page addresses, except that the calculator's score and standard deviation are removed first. A result link's contents are not removed.
Lelfy sends Google Analytics an event when a tool is started, finished or shared. The event names the tool and never includes answers, scores or inputs.
Outside companies and data sharing
The outside companies involved are Google, the other advertising companies that may show ads through Google's systems, and Cloudflare.
Google provides the advertising and analytics described above. The other advertising companies may serve ads through Google's systems. Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks.
Google handles data from both Google AdSense and Google Analytics under its own policies. Its page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services explains how it uses that information.
Lelfy itself does not sell or rent personal data. What advertising companies receive from a visit to Lelfy is what Google's advertising code collects directly from your browser. Server logs, the page view counter and Google Analytics data are not shared with advertisers.
Accounts, forms and other tracking
Lelfy has no user accounts, newsletter, sign-up forms or comment system.
Lelfy never asks a reader for a name, an email address or an age. There is no Facebook pixel. There are no tracking tools beyond Google AdSense, Google Analytics and Lelfy's own page view counter. There is no embedded third-party content other than Google's ads.
Readers and links to other sites
Lelfy is written for high school students and adults teaching themselves, and runs the same Google AdSense and Google Analytics setup on every page.
Lelfy does not ask readers for a name, an email address, an account or an age. The controls described above apply to every reader: blocking cookies, the Analytics opt-out add-on and My Ad Center.
Ads and other links can lead to other websites. Those websites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you arrive there.
Contact and deletion requests
You can ask about, or ask for deletion of, anything Lelfy holds by emailing [email protected].
If you email Lelfy, your email address is used only to reply. A deletion request has limits because the information involved is held in different places and is not all tied to a named person.
- Analytics records are not tied to a name, and Lelfy cannot look up a particular reader in Google Analytics. Analytics event data expires after 14 months.
- Advertising data is held by Google and managed through My Ad Center. Lelfy cannot look up a reader in Google's advertising systems.
- Server logs are deleted after 14 days.
- You can clear cookies in your browser at any time, including the analytics, advertising and cookie notice cookies.
